Last round of negotiations before Rio

On 29 May delegates to the third round of “informal informal” consultations on the zero draft of the outcome document for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) convened at UN Headquarters, New York, for the first day of their five-day session. Negotiations took place in two Working Groups throughout the day and during night sessions. In addition, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed delegates in the afternoon.

On 30 May delegates continued negotiating in two Working Groups and a number of informal groups throughout the day and during night sessions. Working Group I considered Chemicals and Waste, Sustainable Consumption and Production, Mining, Education, Promoting Green Jobs, Oceans, Small Island Developing States, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Gender. Working Group II discussed text on “Engaging Major Groups and Other Stakeholders” in the section on renewing commitment, and discussed the sections on Green Economy in the Context of Sustainable Development and Poverty Eradication and the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development.
